Conscious sedation competencies

The Board has developed entry-level competencies expected of applicants for endorsement of registration in the conscious sedation area of practice.

Dentists who apply for endorsement of registration for conscious sedation will already have the competencies of a graduate dentist which are outlined in the Professional competencies of the newly qualified dentist developed by the Australian Dental Council.

How are the competencies being used?

The competencies are used to support a number of regulatory functions of the Board, including:

  1. Accreditation – the competencies will be used as part of the ADC’s accreditation process of programs of study providing a qualification for the purposes of endorsement
  2. Registration – the competencies may be used to assess applications for endorsement for conscious sedation, and
  3. Notification – the competencies can also be used as part of the management of a notification against an endorsed dentist.
