Tribunal cancels dental practitioner’s registration

19 Dec 2014

The Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) has cancelled Dr John Ham’s registration from 12 December 2014 and disqualified him from applying for registration for six months from that date.

The allegations related to Dr Ham’s treatment of four patients between January and September 2011. The Dental Board of Australia alleged that Dr Ham’s conduct on these occasions crossed spectrums of seriousness within the areas of dental competence/treatment, informed consent, billing, record-keeping and boundary transgression.

The tribunal made findings of professional misconduct in relation to two allegations and unprofessional conduct in relation to nine allegations.

The tribunal ordered Dr Ham’s registration to be cancelled from 12 December 2014, and disqualified him from applying for six months from that date. The tribunal also ordered the names of the notifiers and Board’s witnesses to be suppressed to protect their identity.

The reasons for the decision will be published by VCAT on the AustLII website soon.
